FUTURE FLIPPERS BY: ROCKDALE GYMNASTICS
At Rockdale Gymnastics, we believe childhood should be filled with movement, confidence, and joy. For over 40 years, we’ve been a family-run business dedicated to helping kids grow not just as athletes, but as people. Since opening our doors in 1983, we’ve welcomed tens of thousands of children and families, creating a space where progress feels like play and every milestone is celebrated.
Our story began with two college teammates, Joe Ashley and Drew Davis, members of the Lipscomb University Men’s Gymnastics Team. After college, both found themselves in Atlanta, working at a small after-school program. Recognizing their passion and partnership, Joe’s parents, Fred and Miki, invested in their dream and purchased a building where they could start something of their own. From that moment, Rockdale Gymnastics was born.
What started in a small warehouse with a gravel parking lot grew, piece by piece, into the vibrant gym families know today. Over the years, Rockdale expanded to include multiple gymnastics floors, a karate studio, cheer and dance rooms, a pool, and even outdoor spaces that have been home to everything from skateparks to summer camps. Along the way, we’ve hosted thousands of birthday parties, parents’ nights out, and community events, all while keeping gymnastics at the heart of what we do.
For founders Joe and Drew, the mission was always bigger than teaching flips and cartwheels. It was about giving children a safe and supportive place to discover who they are, build lifelong friendships, and develop the confidence that carries them beyond the gym. Their dedication, humility, and love for others shaped not just a program, but a legacy that continues to this day.
That legacy now lives on through the next generation with the launch of Future Flippers Gymnastics in Monroe. Opened by Joe’s son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Charlee, Future Flippers was born from their dream to bring the same joy, fitness, and family-first spirit to a new community. Backed by the support of family, friends, and the community, they’ve created a space where little ones can take their first steps into gymnastics, grow in confidence, and experience the kind of fun that only happens when you’re learning through play.
At both Rockdale and Future Flippers, we are more than gyms—we are families helping families. Whether your child is attending their first mommy and me class, celebrating a birthday with friends, or learning the discipline of gymnastics, they are joining a community built on joy, growth, and care.
